Match Report v Wellingborough Whitworth

Lge (H)
Won 3-1
(H/T 1-1)
After a run of 3 away games Moulton were back in action at Brunting Rd with mid table Wellingborough Whitworths the visitors. The side showed 2 changes from last week’s 4-0 win at Royston with Josh Melling and Justin Mensah replacing Dan White and Dante Grey. Honours were even early on and neither side threatened but eventually Whitworths had a shot from distance that whistled over the home crossbar. Other than that there was little to entertain a good crowd basking in the spring sunshine with both sides cancelling each other out, although it was probably the visitors that had the greater possession as the half proceeded but that changed with 15 minutes of the half left. Damien Osoimoejiokhian headed goal wards from a Lewis Isom corner and when the ball was cleared Andy Hall returned it to Isom and his left foot shot whistled past the far post, and 8 minutes later they took the lead. Osoimoejikhian’s throw from halfway was flicked on and Nat Ansu found himself in the clear 40 yards out and bore down on the last defender before un-selfishly slipping in ADAM DICKS on the right hand side of the box who finished into the far corner to register his first senior goal for the club. Sadly within 4 minutes the scores were level when the home defence were caught cold with a straight ball and the forward beat the advancing Jonny Vallance.
HALF TIME MOULTON 1 WHITWORTHS 1
The second half started with the Magpies looking more assured on the ball and more likely to score. That proved to be the case with 56 minutes gone. Isom lobbed a ball over the top and ANSU gave chase but looked 2nd favourite to get there between 2 defenders however he managed to get a touch on to the ball and with the keeper committed, it found the net to register his 30th league goal of the season. Sadly in the action of scoring the striker was injured and was replaced by Matty Long. With 20 mins left manager Gary Petts brought on the lively Dan Camacho in place of Derek Okoye and his presence unsettled the Flourmens defence on more than one occasion, whilst at the other end the central defensive pairing of Melling and Boateng were coping with anything the visitors could muster. Camacho was proving a real problem for the visitors defence and with 2 minutes of normal time was instrumental in the home side sealing the points when he charged down a clearance and when Long had a shot blocked it ran to ISOM 10 yards out and he fired it back past the visitors keeper. There was a scare for Moulton 3 minutes into injury time when Whitworths hit the bar with a free kick from 20 yards but the Magpies were well worth the win in the end and that is now 14 home wins out of 14 in the league, by far the best in the whole of the English National non-league pyramid.
