Moulton entertain Letchworth Garden City Eagles on Saturday (KO 3:00) in what will be their 3rd home game in just over a week. Building on their two recent home wins, they will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the league (well 2nd on goal difference) with another win, to make it 9 out of 9 points gained.
Letchworth currently sit in the top half of the division, 10th place with 33 points from their 25 games (10 wins; 3 draws; 12 defeats). Their notable wins, against teams in the top half of the table, being Eaton Soon at home in August (4-2) and Wellingborough Whitworth away (2-1) in October. On Tuesday night they played Buckingham at home, losing 1-3. Their previous 4 games have seen them win at home to Rushden & Higham (4-1); draw at home to Royston Town Res (0-0) and lose to Long Buckby home (2-3) and away (1-3).
This will be the 3rd meeting between the teams this season. Back in September we drew 2-2 away in the league, in what was quoted ‘A niggly stop start game with far too much complaining to the referee’. We were 2-1 down after 10 mins, they scored after 7 mins, Luca equalised on 9 mins, straight from the kick off they went ahead again. Then came the ‘Villain to Hero’ moment. With 10 mins remaining Luca was sin binned for complaining to the referee. On his return, with time up and still being 2-1 down, up steps Luca in the 93rd minute to slot home the equaliser. The 2nd match was at home in the League Cup in October which ended in a Moulton 3-1 win, goals from Isom, Melling (jury still out on whether it was an OG) and Okoye. In the last two seasons results have been:
22/23 Season
(A) lost 1-2 (Scorer: Jackson)
(H) won 4-2 (Scorers; Okoye (2), MacCarthy, Lowery)
23/24 Season
(H) won 1-0 (Scorer: Boateng)
(A) won 1-0 (Scorer: Dickens)
Saturdays referee is Jakub Gierczyk who has officiated a few games at Moulton, the most recent the defeat v Desborough Town in the League Cup last month.
