Match Report v Ampthill Town

Lge ( H)
Won 4-0
(H/T 2-0)
At the start of a 3 game week for the Magpies they welcomed fellow promotion hopefuls Ampthill Town to Brunting Rd and included new signing Damian Osoimocjiokhian in the starting line-up. Moulton started the brightest and the first chance fell to Derek Okoye following a Lewis Isom free kick but the keeper saved easily and soon after a long punt from Jonny Vallance was headed on by Dan White to Nat Ansu but he hit the side netting. The pressure did tell though after 15 minutes when Okoye robbed an Ampthill defender, trying to shield the ball out of play, near the corner flag before crossing for ANSU to convert at the near post. The home side were playing some great football and Isom shot from long range but it was straight at the keeper, however after 25 minutes the home side went further in front. Andy Hall played a great ball across to Adam Dicks who advanced before crossing into the box where OKOYE looped a header back across goal into the far corner. Ampthill’s only real chance of the half came from a free kick 20 yards out but Vallance parried the shot to safety and they had a decent last 10 minutes of the half but lacked penetration up front.
HALF TIME MOULTON 2 AMPTHILL TOWN 0
LUCA IACIOFANO replaced Injured Francis Boateng at half time and his first involvement led to a 3rd goal for the home side, Keiran Ashman found him out on the right and he took on a defender before hitting a great shot across goal into the far corner. Okoye had a half chance not long after but again it was straight at the keeper. The visitors could have pulled a goal back after 63minutes when a cross to the far post was well controlled but Vallance was equal to the shot again, but it was a rare chance for them as Moulton continued to dominate. Josh Melling was desperately unlucky to see a great header brilliantly saved by the Ampthill no 1 and then Matty Long missed the target with a close range header and not long after Okoye rounded the keeper but saw his shot from an angle cleared off the line. Chances continued to come and go Ansu had 2 first shooting over after being set up by Iaciofano and then was wide after a great 1-2 with Long. New boy Osoimoejiokhian fancied some of the action and got a great 30 yarder that the visitor’s keeper again saved brilliantly but as the clock ticked up to 90 minutes a deserved 4th goal did eventually arrive. Long picked up the ball near the half way line and left 2 defenders for dead before crossing low into the box, and when the ball was only half cleared JUSTIN MENSAH returned it with venom into the bottom corner from 10 yards. The goal capped a brilliant all round team performance probably the best of the season where everyone contributed and sets us up nicely for Tuesday next when table toppers Irchester Utd visit Brunting Rd.
