After Saturdays win over Leighton Town Res the Magpies were on the road when they visited Wellingborough Whitworths in the Spartan South Mids Division 1. The Flourmen made most of the early running but didn’t really threaten the Moulton goal and it was the visitors who had a gilt edged chance after 20 mins Nat Ansu won a header in the centre circle and when a Home defender tried to clear the ball struck Luca Iacoifano and suddenly he was in the clear but as the keeper met him just inside the box he shot wide of the target. Not long after the home side went close with a near post header and then the Magpies keeper Jonny Vallance pushed a long range effort away for a corner. With around 15 mins of the half left the home side were unlucky not to go in front when the hit both post and then bar within the space of 10 seconds. Mouton replies and twice Lewis Isom put decent crosses into the box but no one could add a finishing touch to either. With 5 minutes of the half the visitors had another gilt edged chance to take the lead when Ansu burst clear but this time the keeper blocked his shot and this proved decisive as going into stoppage time Whitworths took the lead direct from a corner.
HALF TIME WHITWORTHS 1 MOULTON 0
Ansu was straight into the action at the start of the second half and he just lost a footrace with the home keeper and the ball was cleared and 5 mins later the Flourmen went 2 up when Moulton gave away a cheap free kick 35 yards out From the kick Vallance saved the header but was helpless with the follow up. Influential defender Josh Melling had to leave the field soon after with an injury and with 61 mins on the clock it was 3-0, another free header in the middle of the Magpies box. To Moulton’s credit they kept plugging away and pulled a goal back 3 minutes later, Keiran Ashman and Ansu combined and the latter played IACIOFANO in on the left hand side of the box and he finished clinically. The Magpies were enjoying a decent spell now and after Francis Boateng went on a marauding run Ansu set up substitute Dan Camacho who had a shot blocked and Ashman was narrowly wide with the follow up. However with 20 minutes left Whitworths found the net again to make it 4-1 but Moulton still had the lion’s share of possession afterwards and grabbed another goal with 8 minutes to go. Ashman won the ball and fed LEWIS ISOM who played a lovely 1-2 with Camacho and hit the target from 10 yards.
