Moulton welcome ‘Top of the Table’ Irchester United to Brunting Road on Tuesday (KO 7:45) for what is likely to be an entertaining fixture.
‘The Romans’ currently sit 3 points above Moulton in the table but having played 2 extra games, so a win on Tuesday would bring us level on points, however ‘The Romans’ have a better goal difference. They have gained 54 pts from their 25 games with 16 wins; 3 draws and 3 defeats. The defeats were at the hands of Cranfied away in August (0-3) and at home to both Moulton in October (2-4) and Wellingborough Whitworth in December (2-3). Their last four games has seen them win at home to Cranfield (2-0) in January and away to Langford (4-0) in December. Their defeat being the home match above v Wellingborough Whitworth. On Saturday they played out a home draw with 4th place side Eaton Socon (2-2). Prior to them entering the Spartan League in the 23/24 season, we hosted them at Moulton in an NFA County Cup match on 22 March 2023 in which we progressed to the next round with a 3-2 win, goals from Hall, Okoye and McCarthy. Last season, in the Spartan league, we drew away in Oct (2-2), goals from Adams and Iaciofano before a win at home at the end of Dec (3-0), goals from Ansu (2) and Hall. This season we won away (see above), goals from Ansu (3) and Ngolo.
Tuesday night's referee is James Medley, another new face, who will have the experienced Woolmer and Weatherall as his assistants.
Second in the league AFC Welwyn do not have a league game on Tuesday, but do have a game in the Hertfordshire County Cup. Eaton Socon (4th) have a home fixture v Raunds.
