Match Report v Stotfold Res - 15 Oct 2024

Lge (H)
Won 5-4
(H/T 4-1)
Moulton FC entertained Stotfold Res on Tuesday last the first home league game since 20TH August with Josh Melling returning to the side after 3 weeks on the side lines with a calf injury. The home side had the first chance after 5 minutes when Ben Jackson and Luca Iaciofano set Nat Ansu clear , he managed to round the on rushing keeper but was driven wide and was unlucky to see his shot hit the outside of the post from a difficult angle. Just to compound the Magpies recent bad luck Stotfold grabbed the opening goal when a shot from the left took 2 deflections eventually finding the net totally wrong footing Jonny Vallance in the home goal. Parity however was not long coming, Melling sent Ansu away on the right and his cross was neatly finished on the run by IACIOFANO. Not long after Ansu worked an opening for himself but stumbled as he was about to shoot and the chance was lost. Moulton were playing some of their best football of the season and should have gone in front after 23 minutes when Dan White headed a corner back across the box but Pierre N’Golo couldn’t get any power in the shot and the keeper saved easily. A minute later however the Magpies did deservedly take the lead Ansu challenged the visitor’s keeper and as the ball broke across the 6 yard box N’GOLO was on the spot to finish and no more than 2 minutes later it was 3-1. Ansu broke clear and forced a great save from the Stofold keeper but the ball ran loose invitingly for IACIOFANO to convert easily. The sudden capitulation was too much for one of the Stotfold management team who was shown a Red card for foul and abusive language to the match officials with half an hour gone. As the half reached its conclusion Ivandro Monteiro and Ansu combined to set up IACIOFANO for his hat trick and set the seal on a great 45 mins of football.
HALF TIME MOULTON 4 STOTFOLD RES 1
Moulton started the second half on the front foot and after Dan Mortimer and Andy Hall combined Ansu saw another goal bound shot saved by the keeper. Against the run of play Stotfold grabbed a second goal after Moulton gave the ball away whilst under no pressure but after 60 minutes the home side grabbed a 5th goal whenonce again Ansu was denied by a save from the keeper N’Golo retrieved the ball and crossed for IACIOFANO whos first attempt hit the bar but he was quick to react with an overhead kick to grab his 4th of the game.
More dawdling with the ball at the back gifted Stotfold another goal and that gave them fresh imputus Iaciofano and N,Golo made way for Archie Elmore and Lewis Isom and they combined soon after Isom setting up Elmore but again the keeper saved. With 6 minutes left the visitors scored again and despite 1 more blocked shot Moulton held out for a deserved win.
