Lge (A)
Lost 0-4
(H/T 0-1)
The latest away trip for Moulton FC saw them down the A1 to face second in the table AFC Welwyn in a first v second clash, but missing 5 squad members and not for the first time this season The Magpies were first to show and when Andy Hall set Nat Ansu free on the right his cross eluded Archie Elmore in the box and the chance was lost. The home side replied and after a corner was headed back into the box an overhead kick went just over. The visitors were not getting the rub of the green with the match officials and one incident that saw Ivandro Monteiro booked when challenging for a header was to be crucial later on. The home side were looking sharp up top and Jonny Vallance had to be alert to turn a shot from distance around the post, and on the half hour was in action again from a free kick. As the half neared its end Moulton had 2 chances first Elmore laid the ball back to Monteiro but he shot wide and then Jack Barnett cut in from the left but also failed to hit the target. Right at the stroke of half time Welwyn took the lead, 2 crucial headers were lost in Moulton’s defence and Sami Oyediran broke clear before lobbing the advancing Vallance and tapping into an empty net, and before the whistle went Vallance was in action again to keep the score at just 1-0
HALF TIME AFC WELWYN 1 MOULTON 0
Within 5 minutes of the restart the home side went further in front, Moulton had a corner which Welwyn cleared and Ata-Gyamfi broke away before squaring to Oyediran who converted for his second of the match. Moulton replied and Josh Melling headed over a Barnett corner and then set up Ansu who took his shot early but again missed the target. The visitors were on top around the 70 minute mark and Luca Iaciofano got free and shot across goal and wide but 8 minutes later they were dealt a severe blow. Monteiro who was booked earlier for the innocuous challenge pulled back a home player and a second yellow was followed by the obligatory red. The home side took full advantage and with 10 minutes put the game to bed, when Jack Allen picked up the ball on the edge cut inside and fired past Vallance into the corner of the net. Davide Soro replaced Elmore and within minutes of coming on played a neat 1-2 with Barnett before advancing and bringing a save at the near post from the home keeper, and soon after Hall set up Ansu again but not for the first time in the afternoon the Magpies missed the target. As the game drifted towards 90 minutes Welwyn put the icing on the cake when Archie Oakes drilled a shot in from the edge of the box.
