Moulton FC started their defence of the Spartan South Midlands Division 1 Cup against Letchworth GC Eagles at Brunting Rd with Josh Melling and Ben Jackson returning and with Derrick Okoye replacing Nat Ansu in the number 9 shirt. The Magpies got off to a dream start after only 3 minutes when Lewis Isom intercepted a stray pass in midfield before releasing OKOYE in the inside left channel and he promptly poked the ball past the advancing keeper and inside the far post to give his side the lead. The home side dominated proceedings early on and Andy Hall set up Isom but his shot flew just wide and then Jack Barnett tested the visitor’s keeper from distance. Letchworth were struggling to flow the tide and Okoye fired in a cross from the left but Isom may well have lost his head if he had got on the end of it and then Pierre Ngolo also had a chance but the keeper saved. A brilliant 4 man move ended with young Adam Dicks bringing a good save out of the visitors No 1, but with 25 minutes gone Moulton deservedly went further in front when JOSH MELLING headed a right wing corner against the post but the keeper somehow helped it into the net via a deflection ( one for the dubious goals committee) The Visitors got more of a hold on the game after this and hit the crossbar and post in quick succession but the Magpies replied and Okoye was narrowly wide from a Barnett corner and just before the whistle Okoye was again involved this time just failing to convert another cross from Isom.

The home side had the first chance of the second half when Isom headed over a Dan White cross but with 60 minutes they were dealt a blow when Barnett jarred his knee in a collision and he was replaced by another of the clubs blossoming Under 18 team, Jude Goodacre making his first team debut. Not long after Letchworth hit the woodwork again and a couple of minutes later grabbed a goal back with a header from a corner. However it only took 4 minutes before the Magpies restored their 2 goal lead when ISOM who had been a threat all night cut in from the right before lashing the ball past an unsighted keeper with 66 minutes on the clock. This goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors and and home keeper Jonny Vallance was only called into serious action once in the remaining time and to add to their woes the visitors were reduced to 10 men with 5 minutes left when some choice words to the referee by one of their players resulted in a sin bin.
