After only 2 minutes we had a fast break down the right and Georgia was intercepted just as she was about to shoot. The ball broke and was cleared by Bugbrooke to their number 11. She made a fast run at Moulton's defence before twisting and turning and firing and unstoppable left footed shot into Moulton's net for 1-0 Bugbrooke. For the next 10 minutes Moulton tried hard to get a foothold into the contest but Bugbrooke's defence looked solid, supported by their midfield. Then on 15 minutes number 11 made another fast run at Moulton's defence only to stumble under tackles, unfortnately the ball broke to Bugbrroke's number 15 who had a simple tap in for 2-0 Bugbrooke.
On 27 minutes another break from Bugbrooke saw their 15 close in on Moulton's goal. A firm strike was well save by Harriet and she was quickly up to block the follow up shot. Moulton were in the match and containing the Bugbrooke attackers however on 32 minutes a couple of missed challenges saw Bugbrooke number 14 free to hit firmly into the far corner for 3-0 Bugbrooke. Scoreline flattered Bugbrooke but their strikers were fast and clinical. Some good interplay from Moulton looked promising until a wayward pass set Bugbrooke away again. Number 14 narrowly shooting past the post. Half time 3-0 Bugbrooke.
First 10 minutes of the 2nd half saw Moulton having slightly the better of the exchanges. Georgia dispossessed the Bugbrooke left back and made a run forward and although Shannon had made a good run to support her, she had a shot that was wide of the goal. The next 25 minutes saw Moulton playing some decent passing football rather than panic clearances too far upfield. Pressure was exerted but no real clear cut chances were created. The game was threatening to boil over as some of the Bugbrooke players had been making some rather nasty comments to and about Moulton's players. There were also some over zealous tackles being made usually by Bugbrooke's number 6.
On 80 minutes Bugbrooke broke away on the right and with the defence sliding across, a long diagonal ball was played across to number 11 who controlled it and took a step forward and blasted a shot hard into the Moulton net for 4-0 Bugbrooke.
Then a late tackle from behind on Steph, and more unnecessary comments, saw Steph incensed and several other players had had enough and became involved. The referee eventually calmed things down without any bookings and Moulton were able to take a free kick.
There was just time for Bugbrooke's linesperson (one of their players) to get involved with verbals and be booked by the referee.
An unsavoury finish to the match and emotions were still running high after the final whistle.
The 2nd half performance from the Moulton players was very encouraging, they chased and tackled and tried to get back to passing football rather than panicky big boots forward. Steph ran her socks off again and in general the midfielders and defenders including Harriet, worked very well. Shannon worked tirelessly but it appeared every break sent the ball Bugbrook'es way.
A few very quick and intelligent players in the Bugbrooke team but the team is let down by the behaviour of a few of the others.
Semi final teams in the County Cup are Bugbrooke, Northampton Town, Peterborough Utd and Wellingborough Town.
